3D Book Cover Maker

A flat cover image in, a 3D book mockup out.

A web tool that turns a flat cover into 3D book cover art. It takes the image by URL, renders the book, and saves the result as JPG or PNG at the quality you choose.

The 3D Book Cover Maker screen: input and output settings on the left (source URL, file name, quality, JPG or PNG, right-to-left, flip and flop, crop, resize, logo and text watermarks) and five rendered 3D book covers on the right, each with preview and download buttons.

What you are looking at

  • The left column is the whole workflow: source, output, then the advanced options.
  • Every render lands in the gallery with a preview and a download button.

// what-it-does

What it does

Designers and publishers need a 3D shot of a book long before the book exists. This makes one from the flat cover.

You give it a cover image by URL, name the output and set the quality. It renders the cover onto a 3D book and adds the result to a gallery beside the settings.

Input and output

  • Takes the source image by URL
  • Saves the result as JPG or PNG
  • Sets the image quality, up to 100%
  • Saves into a folder you name on the server
  • Can delete the output file from the server once processing is done

The cover itself

  • Right-to-left covers, for books that open from the other side
  • Flip and flop the source image
  • Crop the output
  • Resize or scale the output
  • Logo watermark and text watermark
  • External custom fonts for the text

// how-it-was-built

How it was built

A browser tool with a settings column and a results gallery.

It ran as a web application on a server: the settings post to the renderer and the finished covers come back into the gallery. The footer credits BlackSwanLab, the label I publish my own tools under.

Status

Archived. It was never published as a download, and I no longer run it.

The portfolio is the record. The plugins, apps and systems I still maintain have their own pages, with current versions and numbers.
